Help finding the right role

It’s not always easy to decide on what volunteering opportunity is the right one for you, particularly if it is your first time volunteering. But fear not, we are here to help.

There are many different reasons that people choose to volunteer and a whole host of benefits that volunteering brings to the individuals helped, the community and the volunteer.

It may be that you would like to gain experience in a specific area, or learn and progress in your career; volunteering is a great way of trying something new. Or perhaps you would like the chance to meet new people and give something back by making a difference to someone’s life.

You could also have a think about whether there is a specific area of interest that appeals more to you, such as volunteering with older people; young people and children; people with disabilities; or for the police or fire service. And also what type of environment you want to be in, whether you would like to be in an office setting, going to someone’s home, in a library or in the great outdoors.

Some people are keen to use the skills they have developed in their personal and professional lives, whereas for others volunteering is a chance to try something completely different.

Simply searching by your postcode or town location will bring up all the opportunities available at this time that are close to where you live.

You can also learn more about what many of the volunteering opportunities involve by hearing it first-hand from a volunteer doing that role — take a look at some of our volunteers’ stories here.
