If you are keen on gardening, would you be able to help support Mere Brook Day Centre with their garden?

This opportunity is flexible to suit weather conditions, up to 3 hours once a week, between 09:00 – 16:00 Monday to Friday.

Older people services operates using quality services which are provided in a safe way for all residents. Their core purpose is to provide high quality person centred day time support for their service users.

Volunteers must be willing to go through an induction process and relevant background checks; this role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Tasks:

• Assist residents to tend to small areas of the garden e.g. planting & maintaining spring/summer pots and baskets.
• Be able to include the group to carry out general maintenance and basic garden DIY
• Actively support, encourage and empower the service user to achieve specified and agreed goals and objectives
• Encourage and spend some time chatting to service users, helping to combat feelings of loneliness
• Help to brighten up their day
• Log your volunteering hours on-line
• Complete LVP training relevant to role

Required Qualities:

• You should be a good communicator
• Be committed to providing a good service
• Have patience and understanding of other people
• Some general knowledge of gardening/ planting/DIY
• You must be friendly & approachable
• You must have a caring nature
• Have an awareness of confidentiality issues and follow guidelines
