
Digital Champion Volunteer
Many of our Blackpool Libraries have drop-in sessions for our service users to seek help with their IT skills or digital access. These sessions are supported by digital champion volunteers.
What you can expect from us:
- Support from Library staff and managers will be accessible at all times
- The role being risk assessed and this made available to you
- Covid secure environment

The below are the potential times for the libraries (these however are subject to change) –
Central: Tues & Thurs 1.30-3.30
Moor Park: Monday 9.30-12
Palatine: Friday 9.30-12
Layton: Friday 1-3
Anchorsholme: Thurs 2-3
Mereside: Mon morning OR Fri afternoon
Revoe: Mon afternoon OR Weds morning
Library@thegrange: Weds afternoon OR Thurs morning
Tasks:
- To offer basic ICT skills to library customers on a 1-2-1 basis and would include:
- printing
- scanning
- setting up an email account
- Downloading CV templates
- Accessing web based government services
- Online shopping
- Job hunting
Required Qualities:
- Enthusiasm, patience and understanding
- Good communication and listening skills
- Reliability
- Good and wide knowledge of online services and tools
- Experience of using library equipment (including our PCs and printing facilities) alongside experience of various mobile phones/tablets that users may present to the session with
- Experience and ability to deal with varying degrees of a user’s ability (some being first time online; some needing a CV; some needing printing assistance)
- Confidence to teach digital skills to users and empower them to move forward in their digital journey
- Ability to give the user a positive and non-judgmental experience
- Commitment to attend scheduled drop-in sessions (usually weekly and sessions could be 1 or 2 hours)
- Log volunteer hours weekly
Training:
- Complete minimum training provided by the service (various online trainings including: data protection and safeguarding)
- Volunteers receive ongoing support through meetings and monthly social activities
- Opportunities to meet on a one-to-one basis with the VSO
- Training is offered and further arrangements can be made to meet personal needs
