Running Group Support – Lancashire Refugee Integration Team

Are you a keen experienced runner?  Would you like to help support a new group activity in the Preston area?

Lancashire Refugee Integration Team (LRIT) are looking for volunteers to support their new running group in the Preston area.

The group will meet once a week during the day (day and time to be confirmed) and run a planned route.  Volunteers will be required to run with the group and support and encourage the members to complete the run.

About Lancashire Refugee Integration Team 

LRIT provide access to specific groups for refugees, enabling them to feel safe and relaxed in a supportive environment. Group support volunteers are required to help motivate those attending the groups and encourage them to take part in the activities in a supportive way so that they are able to follow the workshop sessions.

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Tasks:

• Support and assist staff to run sessions and activities as required for the group
• Help with building new skills, confidence, motivation, and developing confidence in communicating in English
• Engaging with groups and supporting those attending to take part in and to get involved
• Log volunteering hours monthly

Required Qualities:

• Be over the age of 18
• Interest in refugee issues
• Patience and understanding
• Approachable and friendly
• Experienced runner
• Non-Judgemental
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Trustworthy & responsible
• An ability to motivate and inspire others
• Good communication skills (no additional language skills required)
• Active Listener
• Reliable and committed to providing long term volunteering support on dates required

• Commitment to addressing the needs of refugees and asylum seekers
