Activities Support at Wyre Adult Disability Day Service

Do you have a few hours available each week to commit to supporting activities at Wyre Adult Disability Day Service?

They have scheduled activities and require Volunteers to help engage their service users and residents to take part, activities include:

 

10 Pin-bowling (Tuesday 10.45-12.45 and/or Wednesday 10.45-12.45)

Volunteers are required to provide 1:1 support during 10 pin bowling sessions at Thornton Sports Centre Volunteers will encourage and assist the adult disability day service users to engage with the sessions, building confidence through participation.

Volunteers can meet the group at the Sports Centre or travel with the group from Fleetwood.

 

Dance sessions (Thursday 10.30-12.30)

Volunteers are required to provide 1:1 support during the session with a dance teacher at the local dance studio, Parrs Farm, Fleetwood.

Volunteers will encourage and assist the adult disability day service users to engage with the sessions, building confidence through participation.

 

Baking (Tuesday 1.30-4.00 and/or Friday 10.30-12.30)

Volunteers are required to encourage and assist the adult disability day service user to engage with the sessions, building confidence through participation. Practical support with weighing, measuring, preparing ingredients etc may be required.

 

Arts and Crafts (Monday 1.30-4.00 and/or Thursday 1.30-4.00)

Volunteers are required to encourage and assist the adult disability day service user to engage with the sessions, building confidence through participation. Practical support with preparing materials, cutting, decorating, etc may be required.

 

This volunteering role is subject to a DBS check. To qualify you must have been a resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

  • Applicants must be willing to go through an induction process with relevant background checks and an enhanced DBS check (This will be done free of charge)
  • Once you have applied online one of our Volunteer Officers will be in contact to arrange your DBS

Tasks:

  • Befriend the service users and assist them to take part in the group activity.
  • Encourage and empower the service user to achieve specified and agreed goals and objectives
  • Encourage and spend some time chatting with the service users, helping to combat their feelings of loneliness
  • Help to brighten up a person’s day
  • To log volunteering hours monthly online
  • To complete awareness training relevant to the role

Required Qualities:

  • Be a good communicator and listener
  • Be committed to providing a good and reliable service
  • Be patience and caring
  • Adhere to confidentiality guidelines
  • Friendly and approachable manner
  • Knowledge of disability issues
  • A previous knowledge and skill in the activity is beneficial, but not essential

Training:

Training awareness on safeguarding issues will be provided in the form of distance eLearning. Volunteers must have completed the required eLearning training before any activity can be undertaken and will be asked to regularly refresh training when required.
