Conversation Group Support

Lancashire Refugee Integration Team need motivational volunteers to support at their Conversation Group Sessions.

Volunteers with ESOL trained qualifications are encouraged.

During the group activity, volunteers will be required to encourage attendees to engage and help them to gain confidence in their conversation skills by providing sessions in a relaxed & safe environment.

You should be willing to commit to volunteering long term.

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Tasks:

  • Support and assist staff to run conversation workshop sessions and activities as required for the group
  • Help setting up the room for group work and tidying up afterwards (Building based)
  • Help with building new skills, confidence, motivation, and developing confidence in communicating in English
  • Engaging with groups supporting those attending to take part and to get involved
  • Log your volunteering hours monthly

Required Qualities:

  • Be over the age of 18
  • Committed to addressing the welfare needs of refugees and asylum seekers.
  • An ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Reliable and committed to providing long term volunteering support on dates required
  • Patience and understanding
  • Approachable and friendly
  • Non-Judgemental
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Trustworthy & responsible
  • Good communication skills (no additional language skills required)
  • Active Listener
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.

Training:

Training specific to the service and the role is required. Volunteers are expected to complete all training as and when required.
