Gardening Support Volunteers needed at Woodhill House

If you like gardening and are able to spend a few hours a week volunteering & encouraging others to help maintain our garden we would love to hear from you. 

Woodhill House are seeking enthusiastic Gardening Support Volunteers to help support them by carrying out gardening tasks. The benefits of having a maintained area for their residents is essential to their person centred residential and daytime support care.

The role is available 7 days a week, morning or afternoon to suit the volunteer.  Volunteering sessions are flexible to weather conditions and will be arranged with the home upon enquiry.

Older People Services operates using quality services which are provided in a safe way for all residents and our garden plays a large part in providing a safe activity for our users.

This opportunity is subject to an enhanced DBS check.  You must be willing to go through an induction process and relevant background checks.

Tasks:

  • Assist residents to tend to small areas of the garden e.g. planting & maintaining spring/summer pots and baskets.
  • Be able to include the group to carry out general maintenance and basic garden DIY
  • Actively support, encourage and empower the service user to achieve specified and agreed goals and objectives
  • Encourage and spend some time chatting to residents helping to combat feelings of loneliness
  • Help to brighten up a resident’s day
  • Volunteers are asked to log their volunteering hours monthly and submit expenses (where applicable) on line.
  • Volunteers are required to complete minimum level training e.g. safeguarding and commit to further training relevant to role

  • Be a good communicator
  • Be committed to providing a good service
  • Patience and understanding
  • Some general knowledge of gardening/ planting / DIY
  • Friendly & approachable
  • Caring nature
  • Aware of confidentiality issues

Training:

Training will be provided in the form of peer support, distance e-learning or trainer led.

Volunteers are asked to have completed the required training before any activity can be undertaken and may be asked to regularly refresh training where required.

Volunteers must be willing to go through an induction process and relevant background checks; this role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
