Gardening Support – Bowgreave Rise

We are seeking enthusiastic Gardening Support Volunteers to help support gardening tasks at Bowgreave Rise Older peoples Home.

Bowgreave Rise operates using quality services which are provided in a safe way for all residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

The benefits of having a well maintained garden area for their residents is essential to their person centred residential support Care.

This role is flexible as it is weather dependent, volunteers are required to do up to 3 hours per week.

This volunteering role is subject to a DBS check. To qualify you must have been a resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

  • Applicants must be willing to go through an induction process with relevant background checks and an enhanced DBS check (This will be done free of charge)
  • Once you have applied online one of our Volunteer Officers will be in contact to arrange your DBS

Tasks:

  • As a Gardening  volunteer you will be encouraged to assist residents to tend to small areas of the garden e.g. planting & maintaining spring/summer pots and baskets.
  • Be able to include the group to carry out general maintenance and basic garden DIY
  • Actively support, encourage and empower the service user to achieve specified and agreed goals and objectives
  • Encourage and spend some time chatting to residents helping to combat feelings of loneliness
  • Help to brighten up a resident’s day
  • Log your volunteering hours monthly on-line
  • Complete to further training relevant to role

  • Be good communicators and listeners
  • Be committed to providing a good service
  • Have good general knowledge of gardening/ planting /DIY
  • Be patience and understanding
  • Have a caring nature
  • Be friendly & approachable
  • Adhere to confidentiality guidelines

Training:

Training will be provided in the form of distance eLearning. Volunteers must have completed the required training before any activity can be undertaken and will be asked to regularly refresh training when required.
