Conversation Workshops Online – Lancashire Refugee Resettlement Programme

Do you have ESOL / English teaching experience?

If you do, Lancashire Refugee Resettlement Programme (LRRP) requires volunteers to confidently support their Online Conversation Workshop sessions.

The aim of the sessions is to help those attending to gain confidence in their English speaking skills by offering them the opportunity to converse with each other and the volunteer in an empathetic and supportive online environment.

The workshops are administered by LRRP.

Each workshop would last between 1-2 hours.

Days and times shown are when the workshop sessions could be planned for and are flexible to encourage applications who will have the availability to support i.e., an applicant may chose to do one session a week on Tuesdays between 11:00am – 13:00.

Workshops sessions times will be finalised with the volunteer when they reach accepted status. We require a commitment of over 6 months from Accepted status date.

You must be willing to go through an induction process and relevant background checks; this role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Tasks:

  • Confidence in supporting ESOL workshops
  • Engaging with the group supporting those attending to take part and to get involved, may also require 121
  • Supporting sessions that are delivered at venues online as required
  • Help with building new skills, confidence, and motivation
  • Help setting up the room for group work and tidying up afterwards (Building based)
  • Volunteering hours must be logged monthly online

Required Qualities:

  • Be over the age of 18
  • Commitment to addressing the needs of refugees and asylum seekers & interest in refugee issues.
  • ESOL / English Teaching experience would be an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills
  • An ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Patience and understanding, trustworthy and responsible
  • Approachable and Friendly
  • Non-Judgemental
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Active Listener
  • Reliable and committed to providing long term volunteering support on dates required
  • Ability to work well as part of a team

Training:

Training is required and Volunteers must complete all training as and when required.
