Gardening Support at Crossways Centre, Leyland
Do you like gardening?
Are you able to spend a few hours a week to support our gardening activities and help encourage others to help maintain our garden?
Crossways Adult Disability Day Services, Leyland are looking for volunteers on Wednesday afternoons, who would be able to encourage and assist the service users to help maintain the garden area and help to support our gardening projects.

This opportunity is subject to an enhanced DBS check. You must be willing to go through an induction process and relevant background checks.
Tasks:
As a gardening support volunteer:
- be encouraged to assist service users to tend to small areas of the garden e.g. planting and maintaining spring/summer pots and baskets
- provide general garden maintenance and basic garden DIY
- if required, spend some time chatting to service users helping to combat their feelings of loneliness
- help to brighten up a service users day
- log volunteering hours monthly on-line
- complete minimum level training and commit to further training relevant to role
Required Qualities:
- Knowledge of garden plants, gardening /planting / DIY
- Be a good listener & communicator
- Be committed to providing a good and reliable service
- Have patience and understanding
- Be friendly & approachable
- Have a caring and empathic nature
- Able to follow guidelines and regulations
- Aware of confidentiality issues
- Knowledge of helping those living with dementia would be an advantage
Training:
Training will be provided in the form of distance eLearning. Volunteers must have completed the required eLearning modules before any activity can be undertaken and refresh training when required.
