We are looking for friendly people to join our wonderful volunteer family at East Lancashire hospitals at Burnley General Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) department.

Overview of the role

To support neonatal unit mothers whilst they are on the neonatal unit, and also postnatal ward and pre-birth on antenatal ward.

This role will be directly supported by a nominated member of the ward on each shift

All our volunteer roles are supported by the East Lancashire Hospital Trust Volunteer Services.

Tasks:

  • To support neonatal unit mothers whilst they are on the neonatal unit, and also postnatal ward and pre-birth on antenatal ward – conversations that support evidence-based information and support
  • Supporting/engaging with parent’s/siblings
  • Supporting with feeding / expressing / relationship building
  • To liaise with band 7 team each shift for guidance on whom requires support

Required Qualities:

  • Good communication skills, be able to listen with kindness and compassion
  • Strong understanding for the need of confidentiality
  • To be calm and resilient
  • To treat everyone impartially with dignity and respect
  • To be dependable and honest
  • Be able to provide excellent customer service
  • Lived experience / has a special interest in the unit

Training:

Everyone volunteering at the Trust must attend a volunteer induction and will be required to complete core mandatory training before carrying out any volunteering activity within the Trust and may be asked to regularly refresh training where required. All mandatory training will be provided free of charge to the volunteer. From time-to-time volunteers may be offered additional training opportunities related to their volunteering role, places will not be guaranteed and occasionally there may be a cost associated, this will be made clear to volunteers in advance.

This role requires a standard DBS check.
