Could you help us run an Activities Club?
We are looking to start a fun, easy-going meet-up club for the residents in our home. As an Activities Club volunteer you will assist staff in running various events to stimulate and interest our residents in our regular sessions. You will act as a friend to residents and encourage and assist them to partake in the club.
The Activities Club will improve the health and wellbeing of the residents and give them an opportunity to socialise and carry out a range of meaningful activities, some of which they will have chosen themselves.

Older people services operate using quality services which are provided in a safe way for all residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
Their core purpose is to provide high quality and person centred residential and daytime support for the people of Lancashire.
We are looking to run regular 2 hour weekly or fortnightly sessions, however the day and time of this opportunity is flexible.

You must be willing to go through an induct ion process and relevant background checks; this role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
Some ideas for our Activity Club
Gardening – growing flowers and vegetables
Building projects – woodworking, build a shed, model airplanes, birdfeeders, remote control cars
Games Night/Afternoon – quiz night/afternoon
Play indoor games – carpet bowls, indoor golf, pool, chess, monopoly, scrabble, card games
Day out – walking, fishing, bird watching, golfing, crazy golf, pub, theatre, cinema
Sharing experiences – previous jobs, hobbies, sports, weekly news, how times have changed, cars, schools etc.
Book club, photography
Guest speakers in to talk to them – active military personnel, or a people who had a similar occupation to some of the residents in the group.
Tasks:
- Assist staff in running the Activities Club
- Suggest activities, events and sessions including ideas from the residents
- Take part and assist with different activities
- Actively support, encourage, and empower the residents to join and participate in the Activities Club
- Encourage and spend some time chatting to residents helping to combat feelings of loneliness
- Help to brighten up a resident’s day
- Log volunteering hours monthly on-line
- Complete training and commit to further training relevant to role
Required Qualities:
- Be a good communicator and listener
- Be friendly and welcoming
- Have empathy
- Be committed to providing a good service
- Adhere to confidentiality guidelines
- Have knowledge and awareness of dementia issues
Training:
Training required for LVP volunteering will be provided in the form of distance eLearning. Volunteers must have completed the required training before any activity can be undertaken and will be expected to regularly refresh training where required.
