Befriending – Domiciliary Service

The Domiciliary Service provides a range of support to adults with learning disabilities who live with other people with Learning Disabilities and support from Domiciliary Service Staff. The level of support offered varies between each individual in line with their assessed needs.

You must be willing to go through an induction process and relevant background checks; this role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Tasks:

  • We are looking for a volunteer to escort and support a 21 year old lady with a learning disability to access a sporting activity and offer verbal support when she participates with the activities
  • The volunteer would drive the lady from her home in Lytham to Blackpool Sports Centre and home again
  • The service would provide a good induction and ensure any volunteer was well supported and confident before supporting the person
  • Log volunteering hours monthly and submit expenses where applicable via an on-line computer system
  • Complete minimum level training e.g. safeguarding and commit to further training relevant to role

Required Qualities:

Befriending volunteers need to:

  • Have an interest in sport
  • A similar age to the young lady (but this isn’t essential)
  • Drive and be willing to use their own car
  • Be over the age of 18
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be reliable
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Patience, empathy with people with learning disabilities
  • Be open and non judgmental

 

Training:

Training will be provided where necessary and may be in the form of peer support, distance learning or trainer led. Volunteers must have completed the required training before any activity can be undertaken and may be asked to regularly refresh training where required.
