Digital Communications Volunteer

Supported by good training and supervision, the rewarding role of Digital Communications Volunteer offers an excellent opportunity for personal development by obtaining new skills and experiences as well as a chance to put something back into the community.

Using their local knowledge of refugee and other community services and groups, our Digital Communications Volunteers work with the digital communication and production channels managed by the Refugee Integration Team at Lancashire County Council, and use their digital and interpersonal skills to inform and communicate with refugee and local communities in Lancashire. Effective information and communication practices help empower refugees and foster welcoming communities and services.

  • To contribute to the Lancashire Refugee Hub website and social media platforms by, for instance:
    • Helping produce regular blogs, vlogs and podcasts
    • Gather and produce news about refugee integration in Lancashire
    • Research content
    • Promote our digital communications platforms among refugee and other communities
  • To assist refugee and others with accessing digital communication channels
  • To participate in the production of videos that aim to inform refugees in Lancashire about a range of topics and issues such as housing, benefits and public services; this may include tasks such as helping with script writing, setting up equipment, set design, and scouting locations and/or talent
  • To log volunteering hours monthly and submit expenses where applicable via an on-line computer system
  • To complete minimum level training e.g. Safeguarding, and commit to further training relevant to the role

Required Qualities:


  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • Commitment of 1-2 hours minimum per week / flexible
  • Minimum commitment of 6 months is required
  • Good understanding of digital platforms such as websites and social media
  • Keen interest in digital or online communications, journalism, social media, and/or video production
  • Developing skills, and/or experience of working, in any of the areas above would be an advantage
  • Ability to speak a refugee language (e.g. Arabic) would also be an advantage

Volunteers will be required to complete online E-learning.
