
Activity Buddy
The refresh service offers the people of Blackburn with Darwen the opportunity to access a huge range of leisure, health and well-being activities, sports activities, health and dietary advice, plus much more.
We are looking for volunteer Activity Buddies to offer short term 1:1 support to individuals attending an activity or session for the first time and offer ongoing support when required.
Activity Buddies can support a client to attend a physical activity session of their choice. These activities can include: walking, cycling, gym sessions, exercise classes, swimming, etc.
Schedule:
There are no set days or hours for this role as these will be arranged to fit with you and your buddies schedule.
Location:
Blackburn with Darwen, Dependent on requirements of client.
Tasks:
- To support & encourage active participation
- To be respectful of the client’s needs and remain non-judgemental
- To be a good role model and promote the benefits of physical activity
- To offer physical assistance needed within the activity session, e.g. support on and off the equipment in the gym, guiding the client around the environment
- Ensure the clients safety at all times
Required Qualities:
- Enthusiastic & motivated
- Good communication skills
- Reliable & trustworthy
- Friendly & approachable manner
- Be willing to participate in a range of activities
- Have the physical capability to participate in the specified session
Training:
- Level 1 RSPH Health Awareness / MECC
- Level 2 RSPH Award in encouraging physical activity
- MeLearning modules specific to role e.g. Falls Prevention / Disability confident
- Volunteer Learning Passport
- Infection and Prevention Awareness for Front Line Staff

18 years +Schedule:
Various locations within Blackburn with Darwen.
